Birdie’s Favorite Blogs

by Eclectic Bird on January 30, 2011

I am a busy person. I guess that statement pretty much applies to everyone. For me, it means that I have to limit the time I spend surfing blogs. While it is tons of fun, it is also a huge time suck. Something out of a sci-fi movie. You sit down to ‘just check a few things’ and experience a time distortion where you think you have been reading a blog(s) for 20 minutes and it has actually been two hours. My point here is, it is important to only go to the blogs that really do it for you so you don’t waste your time on mediocrity. That being said, here are five of the blogs I visit the most!

The Pioneer Woman

If you haven’t heard of the phenomenon that is Ree Drummond, I don’t know how you and I can possibly be on the same planet. She’s all sorts of an awesome blogger (OMG those recipes, pictures, tips!) but she also has an amazing cookbook out, has been featured in several magazines, television shows, and has a new book coming out soon. She’s a homeschooling, city girl, rancher wife, photographer, super chef, chic chick. LOVE her. I want to be as awesome as she is when I’m all growed up. Oh and she is upbeat AND funny.

I’m a Lazy Mom

How do you not want to read a blog with a title like that? I guess if you are not a mom, maybe? Or if you don’t like to think of yourself as lazy. Scratch that last one because I go nuts if someone calls me lazy and I love this blog. It isn’t really about being lazy, it’s about getting things done efficiently so you have time to do everything. Tips, confessions, recipes, and hilarity are all sorts of her thing.

Bakerella

As the name implies, this is a site about baking. But not just any kind of baking. Adorable, amazing, inspired baking that will make you ask yourself, Martha who???? Two words: cupcake pops. So amazing. So. Just, yeah. If you are even remotely interested in baking (my favorite form of cooking) you simply must go to this site. It’s inspiring and yummy. It’s a sugar rush without the sugar (unless you follow through then there is actual yummy sugar).

Cakewrecks

While we are on the subject of my obsession with baking, let me introduce you to Cakewrecks. This is a husband and wife team (mostly wife, but some hubby) who post cakes that are total disasters every day. Except for Sunday when you will get a dose of Sunday Sweets that show you just how awesome cake art can be when it is done well. The commentary is hilarious and the pictures are…amazing. Some will amaze you by how anyone could think they could get paid for making it and others will amaze you that the artwork is edible.

Filth Wizardry

A dirty little secret of mine is that I want to be crafty. I LOVE being creative and expressive and all that jazz but…I lack follow through. I’m a big picture kind of girl and have trouble with little things like details. Which makes reading about crafting a great outlet. I get to enjoy all the coolness and see the results without having to actually do anything. This blog is FULL of amazing things to do with little ones and I’ve been so inspired (on occasion) that I actually did do a little follow through. If you look at nothing else…find her repurposed duplo block post. As a teacher and a parent…I’m in love.

*WARNING – It is very important that you do not visit any of these sites for the first time if you have anything else you want to accomplish. They are all that good and that addictive. Seriously. Walk away if you can’t spend a few hours the first time. Don’t even go to bookmark them. Don’t DO IT! You won’t be able to walk away. Ok..now ignore my advice and get to reading ;)
